HOMETOWN)
Ennis Texas BORN) 5/22/85 PERSONAL)
Son of a football coach. Wants to be a coach
after playing career. PREP) Played for his
father and went 41-3 as a starter. Completed 65%
for 4825 yards with 67 touchdowns as a senior. Passed
for 573 yards in one game. MAJOR) History
COLLEGE
- 2004) Redshirt 2005) Played in six
games as a freshman. Averaged -5.0 yards/carry for
-10 yards. 2006) Started all twelve games
as a sophomore. Averaged -2.4 yards/carry for -78
yards with 2 touchdowns. Completed 71% for 445 yards
with 2 touchdowns and an interception in the comeback
win over Minnesota in the bowl game. Completed 69%
for 519 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception
versus Texas. The Red Raiders outscored the Gophers
31-0 in the final 22 minutes. 2007) Started
all twelve games for the Red Raiders as a junior.
Averaged -2.4 yards/carry for -91 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Completed 69% for 646 yards with 5 touchdowns and
no interceptions versus Oklahoma State. Completed
64% for 407 yards with 3 touchdowns versus Virginia
in the bowl game.
SCOUTING
REPORT -- STRENGTHS) Highly productive run-and-shoot
style quarterback. Experienced and durable three-year
starter. Understands the passing game. Reads defenses
quickly and gets the ball out on time. Has played
versus quality competition in the Big XII. CONCERNS)
Low release point. Can improve timing and accuracy
with receivers. Spends all of his time working from
the shotgun. SUMMARY) In a disappointing
year for senior quarterbacks, it would not surprise
to see Harrell rise to the top based on his understanding
of offenses. Has a chance to start for a team running
the West Coast offense. Worst case ... he will likely
stick around the NFL for 10 years as a valued backup.
Not sure that can be said for any of the other senior
quarterback prospects.
